(Upcoming) New Features

  • Activity Feed Updates
They have moved the edit, delete & report buttons to the top into a drop down menu to keep the focus below the post on the actions that drive engagement. Additionally, they improved the appearance of blog and custom post type updates in the activity feed. There are also new settings to enable or disable comments for individual custom post types. For forum posts in the activity feeds, they have replaced the comments with a join discussion button to guide your members right to the discussion. Finally, they added a new quick reply button that allows community members to respond to the discussion directly from the activity feed. What’s next? The BuddyBoss design team is currently working on improving the entire forum experience.
  • Media Security & Performance
They implemented symbolic links or symlinks that create shortcuts to your media files. That way, members will no longer have direct access to media files URLs. These can only be accessed according to the media files privacy settings and are automatically updated when a member changes the permissions of the file. Symlinks also reduce the time it takes to render media files. That way, media files will load faster than ever.
  • Video Uploads
Members are able to upload videos directly to activity posts, messages, profiles, groups, forum discussion documents and comments via a new video icon added to the media toolbar. Thumbnails will be generated automatically as the video is uploading. Videos can also be moved into albums along with photos creating a full multimedia experience.
  • On-Screen Notifications
They will be releasing on-screen notifications to help drive engagement in your community by showing your members new notifications they receive while on a page. These notifications will slide in at the bottom of the screen and will also be shown in the browser tabs.

For next quarter, BuddyBoss announced the arrival of web push notifications! They will help drive your members back to your site and keep them engaged in your community. By the way, BuddyBoss platform notifications will automatically be sent as push notifications. The second major feature – and most popular feature request – is live messaging. Messages will be sent and received immediately on the page, creating real time conversations.

Finally, they will be releasing the much anticipated integration with Tutor LMS 2.0, the feature-rich WordPress LMS plugin. The BuddyBoss app will also soon support Presto Player, a popular video plugin for WordPress.
