Sneak Peek: WooCommerce Announces High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS)
The WooCommerce team has just released a sneak peek of an upcoming new feature called High-Performance Order Storage. HPOS is a database update that will unlock major improvements for both store owners and their customers.
High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS)
Previously known as Custom Order Tables, HPOS is a commerce-first approach to order management that keeps order tables within WooCommerce itself, rather than using WordPress tables. This streamlined approach simplifies the data structure and frees up the platform to be faster than ever.
As a result, customers will see up to 1.5x faster checkout and 5x faster order creation. Meanwhile, store administrators save time with up to 40x faster order lookup.
There’s nothing you need to do right now. They’re targeting August 2023 to make HPOS the default experience for new online stores, but existing stores won’t be affected and will continue to operate as usual.
The new feature is available now. The new HPOS feature is available now for existing stores using WooCommerce 7.1 or later. Simply enable it in your advanced settings. However, at this early stage, not all WooCommerce extensions are currently compatible. You’ll be able to see which of your extensions are incompatible in your dashboard.
