Load Balancers with Letโ€™s Encrypt & HTTP/2

Letโ€™s Encrypt is now integrated directly with Load Balancers, making it easy to provision and renew SSL certificates automatically. Load Balancers also accelerate content delivery by supporting HTTP/2. Both are included for free with Load Balancers.

Virtual Private Cloud

In July, they enabled Private Networking as the first of four releases to give customers Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) capabilities. Stay tuned for new features coming later this year. They will give you the security you need to build scalable, robust, and secure production environments.

Volumes (Block Storage)

In January, they finished their Block Storage expansion by adding availability to AMS3. Now you can add volumes to Droplets in any of their regions.

In addition, they made some backend upgrades to reduce cluster latency by 50% and enable burst support up to 10k IOPS giving you higher performance for spiky workloads.

Also, you can automatically mount a formatted Block Storage Volume within a few seconds, right when a new Droplet is created.

Spaces (Object Storage)

They expanded their object storage availability from NYC3 to Europe (Amsterdam: AMS3) and Asia (Singapore: SGP1), giving you global cloud object storage options.

UI controls for Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) make it easier to use Spaces object storage across domains. Alsp, they made some improvements in terms of performance and reliability.

New Standard & Optimized Droplets

Optimized Droplets are designed for applications that need consistent and high performance CPU resources. As a follow up to doubling resources for existing Droplet plans earlier this year, they have added a new entry-level $20/mo Optimized Droplet. They recently also introduced the 192GB RAM 32 vCPUs Standard Droplet to the lineup for $960/mo.

DigitalOcean Kubernetes Early Access

Kubernetes manages the life cycle of containerized applications to provide predictability, scalability, and high availability. They are using Kubernetes extensively to provide DigitalOcean services, and have launched an early access so that you can run your own containerized applications more easily on DigitalOcean.

Control Panel Dashboard

They introduced the new developers experience to make it faster to access common resources and account information, and added navigation quick links to API and community documentation.

Projects

In July they rolled out Projects, a new way to control and organize your infrastructure on DigitalOcean. These changes are designed to save you time, and provide you with the most important information to you as your infrastructure grows.

For the back half of 2018, they are planning to release even more exciting features including Kubernetes, Spaces CDN, Managed Database Services, and an Application Marketplace.
