WordPress.com Introduces WordPress Pro, A Single New Pricing Plan

WordPress.com has just launched a new single pricing plan called WordPress Pro priced at $15 / €15 per month (paid annually), replacing all previous paid plans. In May 2022, they have added a WordPress Starter Plan to the price plans.

Update: After about three months, WordPress.com ended its controversial pricing experiment in July 2022 and rolled back to the previous model of five plans.

The good news is that the free plan will continue to be offered. However, only with 1GB of free storage and no longer with 3GB. Existing customers will keep the 3GB, though. Also, the new pricing structure will only apply to new WordPress sites created after 31 March 2022.

The new pricing structure is much easier to understand, as it has been simplified significantly by having only two plans instead of five. WordPress Pro also provides access to custom plugins and themes that were previously only available in the Business plan for $25/month.

Unfortunately, where there is light, there is also shadow. For those customers who would have actually only needed the former Personal ($4/month) and Premium plans ($8/month), it will be considerably more expensive. Therefore, future owners of small blogs and private sites will be the ones most affected by the changes.

Automattic also announced that monthly pricing might be available in the future, but without giving an exact date. Furthermore, they will introduce additional storage and add-ons for both plans. Stay tuned!

After the above-mentioned unannounced price changes, they have introduced a new WordPress Starter plan in May which comes with a custom domain name, 6GB storage, Google Analytics integration, and the ability to collect payments such as donations and subscriptions for example.
