DigitalOcean: Free Infrastructure Monitoring & Slack Notifications

The cloud hosting provider DigitalOcean has just announced the launch of infrastructure monitoring, which is available for free on all Droplets in every datacenter.

Powered by the open source DO-Agent, Monitoring allows you to collect metrics, monitor the performance of your Droplets, and receive alerts right from the DigitalOcean control panel. Their latest feature can be enabled during Droplet creation or installed on existing Droplets.

Metrics Supported

  • CPU
  • Disk I/O
  • Memory
  • Disk usage
  • Inbound & outbound bandwidth
  • Process list ordered by CPU or memory usage

Above Metrics are collected in one-minute intervals with a one month data retention. Also you can create alert policies by selecting a metric along with its threshold for specific Droplets or tagged Droplet groups.

Once a metric has hit your specified threshold, you will receive alert notifications either via email or Slack.

What’s Next?

Soon they will release various new features including API support for alert policies, enhanced alert visualization, Block Storage monitoring and webhooks. The last one will allow you to notify third-party services about alerts.
