DigitalOcean: Droplet Tagging, High Memory Plans & Block Storage Volume Snapshots

Block Storage Volume Snapshots

After introducing new snapshot pricing back in August, DigitalOcean just announced snapshots for block storage volumes. Just like Droplet snapshots, you can use them to make backups or maintain a certain state. Block storage volume snapshots are charged at $0.05/GB/month.

Droplet Tagging

DigitalOcean also released a new feature called Droplet tagging. As the tin says, it allows developers to stay organized when it comes to managing applications. Tags are thus a simple yet powerful way to help you with:

  • Deployments & infrastructure management/automation
  • Managing resource ownership
  • Monitoring & automation
  • Logging & data retention policies

High Memory Plans

DO’s new high memory droplets start with 16GB and can be scaled up to 224GB of RAM. DigitalOcean is charging $7.50 per-gigabyte of RAM per month. These droplets are optimized for RAM-intensive workloads such as high-performance databases like MongoDB, in-memory caches like Redis or Memcache, or even for search indexes.
