SEOPress recently released version 5.8 of their WordPress SEO plugin, introducing primary category support for Gutenberg, automatic cleaning of media file names, and much more.
Primary Category For Block Editor
Following the launch of the universal SEO metabox, SEOPress is fully integrated into all page builders, including the Block Editor aka Gutenberg. However, until now it was not possible to select a primary category for posts.
This is finally a thing of the past, as you can now select it directly in the categories panel of the editor.
In a future update, they will also support this for the Classic Editor, especially for WooCommerce products.
Better Image SEO
To improve your image SEO, SEOPress now automatically cleans up the filename of your media when you upload it to the media library. For example, spaces, accents and capital letters are removed and UTF-8 encoding is enforced.
For example, the file name “ExãMple 1 cópy!.jpg” will be rewritten as: “example-1-copy.jpg”.
The “Cleaning media filename” option can be enabled at SEO > Advanced > Image SEO.
Risk-Free htaccess Editing
With the Pro version, you can edit your htaccess file directly from your WordPress admin. However, even the smallest syntax error can cause your website to be blocked when it is saved.
After the latest update, SEOPress now automatically checks that your new file does not create a 500 error on your website. If this is the case, the previous version is restored.
