Slack Announces Data Residency Coming Soon

Slack just announced a brand new data residency feature for their popular team collaboration tool. It will be available with two selected paid plans later this year.

Data Residency

At the end of 2019, Slack will release data residency to give global teams increased control over where their Slack data is stored. At launch, Frankfurt, Germany, will be available as the first data region outside of the United States. Stay tuned for many more regions to follow.

Slack stores user-generated data including messages, posts, files and search encrypted within a desired data region. Application-generated Slack messages and files are stored in the same data region. However, this only applies to Slack data but not to data from third-party apps used with Slack.

Good news for existing customers. They can easily move their their organization’s or teams’ data to a new region.

Note that this feature is currently in beta and will be available for Plus and Enterprise Grid customers.
