Descript Introduces AI Image Generation & Easy Invites

The folks at Descript team have just announced the June update for their audio/video editing tool, introducing AI image generation, easy invites, canvas enhancements, and more.

AI Image Generation

Similar to other tools in the industry, although a bit late to the game, Descript now has a new AI image generation feature that allows you to convert text to images. You can find it in Media > Images > Text to Image. Simply describe the image you have in mind and the AI will generate three options.

Better Team Building

The new Drive invite links allow you to seamlessly add team members. You can generate unique links for Editors and Basic seats, which can be controlled and disabled by Admins or Editors as required. And to manually approve all new editors, simply enable this setting in the Members section of your Drive settings.

Improved Canvas

You can now flip videos and images vertically or horizontally in the canvas with a single click. Just select a layer and you’ll see the new options right next to the crop icon in the canvas toolbar.

By default, you can now resize shapes to any size. Previously, Descript kept the aspect ratio. Now, to turn a square into a rectangle, simply drag its corner in a particular direction. To keep a shape as you resize it, just hold down the Shift key.

Visual Layer Order

Finally, Descript has introduced better controls for managing the visual layer order from the timeline. Simply right-click on a layer and select Layer Order to move it up or down, mirroring the functionality on the canvas. This also means that the order of layers in the timeline now reflects the order on the canvas.

In other news, Descript has added experimental support for timeline export to DaVinci Resolve, currently in beta.
