MyFonts Introduces Helvetica Now By Monotype Studio
MyFonts just excitedly anncounced the arrival of the Helvetica Now font family designed by Monotype Studio. This brand new family of 48 fonts has been carefully redrawn and refit to improve functionality for the demands of modern design projects. It’s a typeface that everyone knows, but even without knowing it if you think of typography without feet, you think of Helvetica. The new evolution of Helvetica is definitely fit for the 21st century.

Helvetica Now
Helvetica Now has been mindfully re-designed to solve modern-day branding challenges and ease creative implementation without compromising its origins of simplicity, clearity, and global appeal. As a result, Helvetica Now is noticeably more sophisticated and graceful than it predecessors. Consisting of three distinct optical sizes (micro, text and display) and glyphs assigned to one of eight OpenType stylistic sets, Helvetica Now is now one of the most versatile sets of sans serif fonts in the world today.
The larger Display sizes have been carefully drawn to show off the subtlety of Helvetica and spaced with headlines in mind. The standard Text sizes are drawn and spaced to deal with the rigors associated with legibility in extended text. The strokes are robust; contrast is reduced (compared to display drawings); and spacing is comfortably loose. The Micro sizes are for very small typesetting and type in low-resolution environments. The forms are simplified and exaggerated to maintain the impression of Helvetica, and the spacing is purposefully loose—an essential ingredient to hyper-legible micro-text.
Helvetica is the typeface from which all other typefaces are judged: Is it as versatile as Helvetica? Is it as legible as Helvetica…? It is with the mantra of clarity, simplicity, and neutrality in mind that the Monotype Studio set out to develop Helvetica Now.
