Previously, each member could create a so-called Space, which works similarly to Facebook Pages or LinkedIn company pages, but for BuddyBoss. Usually, however, you will only want to allow certain members to do this, e.g. business customers. There is a workaround with membership plugins such as Restrict Content Pro though. This way you can allow only certain member and access levels to access the corresponding page for the creation of the Space. But now you can do this directly with Spaces Engine.

They introduced “Create Space” permissions based on:

  • WordPress User Roles
  • BuddyBoss Profile Types

This allows you to restrict or even completely remove the permission to create Spaces for certain user roles or profile types. For example, you can specify that only car dealers, hotels or universities can create Spaces, but not normal members. As icing on the cake, you can even set quotas on how many spaces user roles and profile types can create.

Spaces Engine opens up great new opportunities for you to monetise your community. Most membership plugins allow you to bind members to a specific profile type based on their membership level. This allows you to charge for the creation of spaces, for example.

Lastly, the Spaces Engine plugin is now fully translatable.
