BuddyBoss: New Universally Integration for Multilingual Communities
Graham from BuddyBoss as just introduced a new Universally integration which translates not just the pages you publish, but also what your members write. This includes activity posts, comments, forum replies, group descriptions, notifications, and interface labels in over 110 languages, with translations provided in real time
New: Multilingual Community
If you have ever managed a community in multiple languages, you will be familiar with the issues that arise. Translation plugins such as WPML and TranslatePress can handle your pages, menus, group names and course titles.
However, when a French member opens the activity feed, every post is in English. The shell was translated, but the community post was not. Having a translated interface wrapped around an untranslated conversation does not constitute a multilingual community.
The integration covers the areas of your community where conversations are taking place:
- Activity Posts & Comments: The live feed, including posts made just moments ago.
- Groups & Forums: Group names, descriptions, forum topics and replies.
- Media Titles: Photo, video and document titles, plus activity link-preview cards.
- Notifications & Notification Emails. Alerts are sent to each member in their preferred language, based on their switcher selection or the language of their WordPress profile.
- Interface Labels: Like, Comment, More Options, profile field labels, and time-based text such as ‘5 minutes ago.’
The ‘Automatic’ option displays content from supported feeds that has already been translated into the member’s language. When they open the feed, it is simply in their language.
The ‘On Demand’ option keeps posts in their original language, with a ‘Translate’ option on each one and a ‘Show original’ option to go back to the source text.
The language switcher can be found in your site header or the member’s profile dropdown. Once a member has selected a language, that choice follows them across devices.
Universally is only available on the BuddyBoss Scale plan, and a Universally subscription is required. It is not available on the Start or Launch plans, nor is it currently supported in the BuddyBoss app.
Already running WPML or TranslatePress? They will still handle your pages, menus, and SEO structure. Universally handles content that does not exist until a member creates it.
