DigitalOcean Functions – A New Serverless Computing Solution

DigitalOcean just announced the general availability of its brand new serverless product called DigitalOcean Functions on its cloud computing platform.

DigitalOcean Functions

DigitalOcean Functions is a fast, scalable and cost-effective compute solution that allows you to build quickly, scale automatically and save money by not paying for unused resources. Basically, functions are code snippets that are run in response to event-based triggers. Developers are now able to create serverless functions on DigitalOcean for a variety of purposes, including serverless APIs for web and mobile apps.

It’s available in the NYC, AMS, SFO, SGP, LON, FRA, TOR, BLR regions. DigitalOcean offers 90,000 GB seconds of free usage per month. Overages are charged at $0.0000185/GB-second.

On an unrelated note, dedicated vCPU is now available for Managed MongoDB! All DigitalOcean Managed Databases from Redis and MySQL to PostgreSQL and MongoDB can run on Dedicated Droplets (VMs) to guarantee business performance.
