Linode, which was recently acquired by Akamai, has just announced a managed database service for MySQL that is currently in open beta for both for new and existing customers.

With Linode’s new Managed Database service, you can quickly set up a new database cluster and transfer maintenance tasks to them with minimal downtime.

Managed Databases Beta Details:

  • Available in all 11 Linode data centers
  • Add up to 3 nodes to your database cluster
  • Free during the beta period
  • Resources created will remain in your account until you delete them
  • You will be notified via a support ticket before payment begins

A managed database cluster can now be deployed using the Cloud Manager, API, or CLI. They are already working on extending the service to include PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB and more.
